Summer Offerrings

SC 24

Summer "out-of-school time" programs are important because they offer structured opportunities for children to grow.  Kids go from home to school to extracurricular activities, with each environment contributing to their development.  Summer programs are other unique venues for growth, allowing kids to become independent and self-confident, while socializing and making new friends, and even learning new skills.

2024 City of Plant City Summer Program dates and times:
June 3 through July 26, 2024, running daily 7:30 am to 5:30 pm (Closed Monday July 4 for the observed July 4 holiday).

Various summer sports camps may also be available! Checkback for updates.

We are limiting the number of spots available at 80 per SGMCC, 100 per Planteen.

We will have two sites to choose from for our Summer Youth Program,  the Planteen Recreation Center and the Sadye Gibbs Martin Community Center. Both facilities will incorporate Sports, Games, Arts/Crafts, STEM/Tech, and all the same field trips. There will be slight differences due to the physical layouts and amenities available at each site but both will host the same programing.

Program includes supervised activities such as arts/crafts, board games, and outdoor activities.  For 2024, the 8 week program starts June 3 and runs until July 26, running daily 7:30 am to 5:30 pm (Closed Thursday, July 4 for the observed July 4 holiday).  Full fee payment reserves the child’s spot in the program and covers all program costs, tee shirt, trips and trip transportation.

The program is divided into small groups for ages 6 (completed kindergarten) through 14.  A variety of organized activities are supervised by seasonal summer staff.  Full time staff plan, coordinate, and oversee the program.  The student groups are rotated through various activity areas throughout the day:

  • Arts - youths have the opportunity to create their own treasures in arts and craft classes featuring canvas painting, jewelry making, Christmas in July, Father’s Day crafts, outer space crafts, tie dye, etc.
  • Games - participants will practice fair gameplay while playing indoor and outdoor games including chess, table games, billiards, Capture the Flag, etc.
  • Sports - youth have a chance to participate in organized basketball, soccer, flag football, lacrosse, tennis and other sports games with an opportunity to learn the rules and develop skills.
  • Discovery - this STEM type area will give campers an opportunity to explore areas like aerodynamics, conservation, coding using our new iPad devices, Lego Challenges, wildlife, environmental sciences, simple machines, and cooking - all in a fun and engaging environment.
  • Breakfast and Lunch - we have partnered with Hillsborough County Schools Nutrition Services Department to provide a boxed breakfast and lunch every day to each camper, or they can bring their own lunch.
  • Quiet Time - this rest period gives youth an opportunity to relax and engage in an age-appropriate film, read a book in our newly designated reading center or play a quiet game (or even take a nap if they want).

For 2024, we plan to have field trips for all campers.

The student fee of $450 per person for the eight week program helps offset the costs of supervision and supplies

Payment plans  are available upon request and cash, check, money order or debit/credit card (Visa, MasterCard or Discover only) are accepted.  Online payment by check or debit/credit card is available once an invoice is created - ask staff about this option.  All fees are due by May 15, 2024.  The program sites, ages and fees for the 2024 program:
