What is the City of Plant City Youth Leadership Commission?

The City of Plant City Youth Leadership Commission is a prestigious and comprehensive leadership program designed specifically for sophomore, junior and senior high school students with a Plant City residential mailing address. Eleven Plant City Youth Leadership Commission members will be selected for a one-year term.  The Plant City Commissioners will be responsible in selecting the members out of the available applicants.  As participants in this program, members will have the opportunity to develop into future leaders through a series of structured monthly educational programs and engaging team-building activities.

The program aims to provide a platform for young individuals to enhance their leadership skills and gain valuable insights into the workings of local government. It is open to sophomore, junior, and senior high school students from all educational backgrounds, including those attending public, private, and home-based schools.

Through the monthly educational programs, members of the Plant City Youth Leadership Commission will have the chance to expand their knowledge about various aspects of local government. They will learn about the roles and responsibilities of different city departments, City Clerk, City Attorney, City Manager, Mayor, City Commissioners and community services. Additionally, they will gain an understanding of the decision-making processes involved in policy development and implementation.

Team-building activities will be an integral part of the program, providing opportunities for members to collaborate, develop communication skills, and build lasting relationships with their peers. These activities may include workshops, group projects, community service initiatives, and interactive simulations designed to promote problem-solving and critical thinking.

The City of Plant City Youth Leadership Commission recognizes the importance of nurturing young leaders who will contribute positively to their community. By engaging with local organizations and leaders, members will develop a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities within Plant City and gain the confidence to make a difference in their community.

Upon completion of the program, participants will have acquired a well-rounded understanding of local government and leadership principles. They will possess enhanced communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, as well as a sense of civic responsibility and a commitment to serving their community. The City of Plant City Youth Leadership Commission aims to empower and inspire young individuals to become active and influential leaders who will shape the future of Plant City and beyond.
