Program Overview

Regulatory

The primary mission of the Water Conservation Program is to monitor and report municipal, residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural and reclaimed water usage.  This effort assists the City in meeting and exceeding water conservation and regulatory compliance requirements set forth by the Southwest Florida Water Management District (District).

Plant City is located in Eastern Hillsborough County. This geographical area is part of the Tampa Bay Planning Region and the Dover-Plant City Water Use Caution Area and the Hillsborough River and Alafia River Basins within the Southwest Florida Water Management District.

Community

The Water Conservation Program emphasizes the importance of saving water through an education/information-based program.  Our goal is to assist residential, commercial and industrial customers of Plant City with their water-saving efforts and to enhance our presence in the Plant City community.

Irrigation

Plant City's Water Conservation measures and outdoor irrigation restrictions are established by utilizing and adopting District rules. 50% or more of the water used at the average Florida home is through outdoor irrigation. Plant City's outdoor irrigation schedule and restrictions are designed to provide sufficient time to water and maintain the health of lawn and landscape. An alternative for outdoor irrigation is the use of a garden hose, hose-end sprinkler and garden hose timer. This method targets a more specific area and is an option for watering small lawns.
