About Your Library

Plant City Library c. 1960sThe Plant City Woman’s Club founded their volunteer community library in 1927. This project continued until 1959 when the residents of the City voted to fund a public library through their taxes. A small library was built by the City, staff was hired, and the library became a City department. In 1994, the Library was expanded, remodeled, and renamed in honor of Quintilla Geer Bruton and Judge James D. Bruton, Jr. The 20,000-square-foot facility currently houses:

  • A collection of approximately 55,000 physical materials
  • Over 20 computers and laptops for patron use
  • Interactive educational toys in the children’s area
  • The Mary Noel Moody community meeting room
  • Several study rooms
  • Billy’s Garden Space, a screened-in porch
  • The Imagination Garden, a pocket garden located behind the building

Board Approved Policies

Bruton Memorial Library policies are approved by the Library Board. We also adopt many policies from the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library system, under the Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative interlocal agreement. This allows us to provide uniform library services to patrons county-wide.
